How can we live more sustainably at home? Fortunately, it doesn’t necessarily take big changes. Even small steps can have a great impact, building habits for a conscious, more sustainable lifestyle. Let’s look at something we can easily put into practice right here and right now: using eco mode on dishwashers, washing machines, and dryers.
Why should I use eco mode?
Eco mode is a true low hanging fruit when it comes to saving water, energy, and ultimately money. Did you know that most of the energy your dishwasher or washing machine uses goes into heating the water? Eco settings lower the temperatures and require less water. As a result, your appliance increases the soaking time to ensure thorough cleaning. That’s why eco programs generally take longer.
So should I always use eco mode?
Generally speaking, eco mode is sufficient for normal degrees of soiling. So unless you are washing heavily soiled clothes or dishes, you can expect comparable results from using your dishwasher or washing machine on eco mode. Your dryer’s eco mode saves energy, too. Make sure to fill it up and clean the filter after every use for maximum efficiency.
How to best use eco mode with Home Connect
An eco-wash saves you anything ¬but time. Scheduling your appliance in the Home Connect app is a good way to factor in this extra time. Simply go to the Control section of your appliance in the Home Connect app and select a convenient time to start or finish your eco program. Alternatively, you could try the feature to run your appliance from anywhere, at any time.
