With sustainability tips coming in all shapes and forms we want to show you some of our favourite small tricks to save energy and resources. Every little gesture can help make the world a greener place, so let’s find out more.

Home Connect app eco forecast on a smartphone

More information, less energy

What’s the forecast? One of Home Connect’s many handy features is something called the eco forecast. This useful little gauge shows you how much water and energy your smart washing machine and dishwasher’s programs will use. It can be found after directly clicking on an appliance, or under the Advanced section under Controls. When choosing a specific program, for example Cotton Eco on the washing machine or Eco 50°C on the dishwasher, the blue bar shows how much water the program will use, while the green shows energy. Just like your weather forecast, having access to better information can help you make better choices. While eco forecast won’t tell you whether to wear shorts or a raincoat, it can help you make smart energy decisions about the resources your household devices use.

Turn devices off, remotely with Home Connect

It’s all too easy to dash out the house and forget to turn your helpful household devices off, needlessly using up energy while you’re out and about. Thankfully your smart home app can help with this. Appliances like washing machine, dryer or washer-dryer can be switched off with the power status on/ power status standby button while you are on the move or sleeping.

Use the camera in the fridge to save the planet

We’ve all been there before. You buy a load of groceries only to return home and discover you already have most of the stuff you just bought. If you have a fridge with a built-in camera you can use Home Connect to remotely check and see what you have at any time, reducing any accidental double purchases (and saving yourself from making ratatouille three nights in a row). This kind of careful shopping helps reduce food waste, a crucial issue as approximately 30-40% of food goes to waste in the average household. In addition, remember to take your own bags to bring groceries home. Reducing bag use, either plastic or paper, is hugely beneficial for the environment.

Expect more to come

At Home Connect we're constantly working to develop new smart home technology and ways to help the average household save on energy and waste. As we all lead busy lives, the more that devices and smart household technology can help us, the better! Together, even little changes can collectively make a big difference for the planet.
