Remote Start: What it is and how it works

Remote start is a handy feature that allows Home Connect home appliances to be started remotely - which can be useful if you want to preheat your oven or turn on the washing machine while you're still at work or out of house. The function must be activated manually beforehand on some home appliances, depending on the security level, using a button on the appliance. This is to prevent critical situations, such as when children have been able to cheat the child safety lock or pets are accidentally trapped in the appliances.

The prerequisite for the remote start function is, of course, an internet connection.

Our home appliances have different security levels, as shown in the following picture:

Once the appliance is paired, the Remote Start function is available instantly. There is no need to re-activate the feature when you want to remote control the appliance again. This safety level applies to Home Connect coffee machines, fridges, hoods, and Roxxter.

On this safety level you need to push the Remote Start button every time you want to start the appliance remotely. This safety level applies mainly to your Home Connect oven. Within a 15 minute time window, Remote Start remains active even if you open the oven door to check on your food. If you open the oven door at a later point, Remote Start will be deactivated. In order to re-activate Remote Start, you need to push the button again.

On this level you need to push the Remote Start button every time you want to start the appliance remotely, without exception*. This safety level is there to stop household accidents from happening. That way, Remote Start is deactivated as soon as someone opens the door of an appliance, i.e. of the washer, dishwasher or dryer. In order to re-activate Remote Start, you need to push the button again.

*It is possible to activate the remote start permanently for some appliances. Please check in the user manual whether your appliance supports this function ("Permanent Remote Start").

Remote Start is not permitted on these Home Connect appliances due to local jurisdiction and safety regulations. This safety level applies to hobs.
